Whenever I can't decide where to eat, I invariably pick the Roundabout Diner as there are lots of choices and a range of prices. The Blue Star specials are very reasonably priced and the barbecue platter and the pot roast are excellent. Seasoned just right.
I'm not a big breakfast person but my family loves the omelettes and claim Roundabout must have a secret recipe. I think the Blue Cheese Chips are the perfect food as they come with bacon and cheddar cheese besides the blue cheese and served with sides of homemade ranch dressing and salsa. The chips are homemade and crisp and not greasy. The only downside is that I want to eat an entire order myself (even though I can't finish it in one sitting) and it must be thousands of calories!
Turkey meatloaf! Who would've thought I'd be loving that, but it's delicious and seasoned perfectly. The open face meatloaf sandwich is just the right size for me and they always let me swap out the potatoes for another side (even though the taters are delish). Hamburgers are large, good and made to order. My husband loves the salmon and one of my children always gets the pulled pork quesadilla.
I must mention both the service and the desserts. The wait staff has been attentive during my visits but they never push you to leave. The other morning I spent nearly 3 hours talking with a friend and the waitress just quietly refilled our coffee but didn't interupt our chat. And the desserts are to die for. They are large enough to split. I've tried several fantastic cheesecakes, a fruit pie and some cookie dough cupcakes and everything has been wonderful. All the desserts are homemade at the diner. I plan to order a cake for a family birthday from there.
The Roundabout is also a place I recommend to friends when they are looking to eat in Portsmouth. It seems to have something for everyone although the diner atmosphere might put some off. It's convenient to drive to and is very very clean (unlike a certain well-known breakfast spot in downtown Portsmouth!)
"Hi Sue- Our Book Group had lunch at your place today. There wer 7 of us and Ashely (our pastry chef) made us the most Wonderful pie in the world! It was sweet potato custard pie. WE were treated ever so special and loved the fact that we could linger as long as we wanted and laugh without distrubing any one. The pie was to die for. How great to have dessert just made for us. We'll be back most of us were drooling over the Maine blueberry pie. Kudos, to all. It was great fun!" Nancy
"To whom it may concern, I was in your diner on Sunday September 5. My girlfriend and her two children wre visiting Massachusetts and stopped for lunch. I have never had a more pleasurable lunch in my life. Your waitress Krista treated us way above and beyond. She was amazingly pleasant and treated us so well I will definitely be referring your diner to all my friends who may take the gtrip up north. I just really flet the need to express to you what a wonderful job she did. It was a real pleasure and I will be coming again.." David
"Oh baby, you know what I like! Roundabout Diner is not only a fun breakfast spot, but one with big portions of good food and servers that know what they're doing. Actually I can only vouch for our server Kim and she was terrific. They're open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We had lunch and saw some amazing breakfasts go by. I had a corned beef reuben and the corned beef was sliced thick. I got some mac and cheese instead of the waffle fries (with no charge for the substitution), and it was good. The cheese could have been a little thicker but it was really good.
This restaurant means that there's finally a reason to stay in one of the hotels at the Portsmouth traffic circle. It's still not like being downtown, but at least there's a good place to eat. I'm going back and if they're consistent, I'm going to give the Roundabout Diner 5 stars. But for now, I'm starting with 4 because Yelp won't let me give them four and a half" David- Yelp Review
Right when we walked in we were blown away by the attractive, authentic (yet modern) decor of the restaurant. It looked like a classic 50s diner with a 21st century spin. The food was great as well. I had the reuben, which was great. My wife had the "blue plate special," which she said was very good as well. We will be back for more! Bob- Urban Spoon Review
Stayed at the Best Western Hotel next door and found this really cool retro 50's diner next door. Meal was awesome, they serve breakfast all day (which my wife ordered) and will definitely stay on the Portsmouth Traffic Circle on our next visit to NH just so we can walk to The Roundabout... Dan
Gary catered a bbq and lobsterbake recently for us at our office and it was awesome! Plenty of leftovers and everyone left raving about the food and service. We have already booked our Holiday party with Chill Catering in their function room and will most certainly be using them for future events..Thanks Gary...JO
Justhad to comment about our experience with the Roundabout this weekend. We had 53 women staying at the Best Western for 4 days and 3 nights. They ate lots of meals in the restaurant as well as meals catered by your Chill Catering in your new function space. Everyone absolutely raved about the food, the service, sele...ctionand atmosphere! We are coming back this weekend with another 56 women and are exited to do it all again! Breakfast at home this morning seemedso boring! Can't wait to get back and have your eggs benedict again!
